Detra L Harris, formerly Detra L. Lelaind, has owned and managed small businesses since 1990. With over 25 years of experience as a business owner, real estate investor and real estate portfolio manager, Mrs. Harris first business was named "Detra The Fashion Magazine" in 1990 and from there she knew business ownership was her niche.
Mrs. Harris began her real estate business career in 1989. She discovered real estate management and knew this is where she wanted to spend most of her business career. She is a California licensed Real Estate agent, her professional work history includes; A.F. Evans, Acorn Housing Corporation, Contra Costa County Housing Authority, Harbor Bay Isle Homeowners Association and Insignia Financial Corporation (currently AIMCO) and most recently FPI Management. She has managed a portfolio of over 4000 units of conventional and affordable housing communities collectively and holds a HUD Certified Occupancy Specialist Certification, Certified Community Association Manager as well as a Certified Tax Credit Property Compliance Certificate. She was honored by the California State Assembly in 2001 with a Certificate of Recognition, in honor of, “Your Exemplary Commitment to Helping Seniors and Low-Income Individuals and Families Through Your Efforts to Provide Affordable Housing and Job Training”. She completed her studies in Business Administration at Laney College and San Francisco State University.
Born and raised in San Francisco, California, she formed a start-up business named Brick Housing Management, LLC in 1997, employing over 300 and obtaining a gross profit of more than 4 million. Brick Housing Management offered property owners and real estate developers; tenant administration, tenant screening, marketing, leasing, accounting, management plans, maintenance and staffing. Through the successes of her business efforts, she graduated from local supporting agencies such as; Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center and Women’s Initiative for Self Employment. She was awarded “Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year”, “Service Business of the Year” and landed a featured article in “Red Book Magazine”.
In 2002 she joined J Branch Developments in Oakland, CA as project manager for two multifamily developments in the City of Oakland. Her knowledge in this industry has allowed her to venture into independent projects were she is able to contribute her strong management skills and professional expertise in project scheduling, consultant and budget administration. This experience lead her to form Clayton-Bisch Developments in 2004 offering project management services and administration for real estate developers of multifamily communities.
Clayton-Bisch Developments services included single and multifamily new development project management, pre-construction, construction management and post-construction phases. Her portfolio consists of three (3) condominium projects (92 units’ total) and nineteen (19) single family homes. Her expertise includes; preparing feasibility studies, project proformas, working with architects on designing; conceptual through construction administration.
Although her credentials clearly represent real estate and start-up businesses, she continues to flourish in the community by contributing her time to financial literacy programs, health & wellness and housing forums for low income families and helping seniors to maintain healthy lifestyles on fixed incomes. Mrs. Harris started a non-profit organization in 2009 " A Lelaind Community (ALC)" dedicated to helping low income seniors live in decent affordable housing. Mrs. Harris expects to continue her advocacy for disadvantaged communities, participate in local community activities and help as many families as possible.
